Stichting Verduurzaming Gezondheidszorg (Foundation for more Sustainability in Healthcare) was founded in 2020 by Kim Blommestein, a medical student. The foundation was born when her ideas on making hospitals more sustainable, bundled in a project named Green Healthcare, raised the attention of others.

'As a medical intern I get to see many hospitals from the inside. One of the first things I noticed was the fast amount of waste being produced by all departments. I wondered if this could be reduced and started to research the topic.'

With the project Green Healthcare, she won the INNO Student Challenge of the WWF and the Young Plastic Pollution Challenge of the Plastic Soup Foundation and Spronck Foundation. The prizes won at these competitions form the financing of the activities this Foundation carries out.
